The excellent "The Birds of Scotland" (Forrester et al, 2007) mentions that, although most juvenile starlings in the Outer Hebrides are dark (like S.v.zetlandicus), the biometrics are similar to S.v. vulgaris (zetlandicus has a slightly wider bill base), so starlings in the Outer Hebrides are probably best considered as S.v. vulgaris.
