Bird list of Denmark

The database containing records of all Danish rarities will continually be updated!

This list forms the basis for all the listings on Netfugl.dk. It involves all category A, B and C birds recorded in Denmark (according to SU/BOURC/AERC standard).
  • Category A
Species that have been recorded in an apparently wild state in Denmark since 1st January 1950.

  • Category B
Species that have been recorded in an apparently natural state in Denmark, and not recorded since 1st January 1950.

The 6 category B species are: Little Shearwater, American Kestrel, Allen's Gallinule, Macqueen's Bustard, Upland Sandpiper and Yellow-billed Cuckoo.
Apart from these 6 species, the category C species Eurasian Eagle Owl is actual also a category B species. This species became extinct in Denmark late in the 19th century. However it was reintroduced in Germany, from where it has recolonised Denmark since the 1980'ies.

  • Category C
Species that, although originally introduced by man either deliberately or accidentally, have now established a regular feral breeding population, which apparently maintain itself without necessary recourse to further reintroduction.

The seven category C species are: Canada Goose, Egyptian Goose, Mandarin Duck, Ruddy Duck, Common Pheasant, Rock Pigeon and Eurasian Eagle Owl.

Observations of the species marked with an asterisk (e.g. *Little Shearwater) has to be submitted to the Danish Rarities Committee for approval. Exceptions can be recent records of birds, which have been generally 'accepted' by the Danish birding scene.

The figures in brackets after the species name indicate the number of RC accepted records and the total amount of birds involved. If the bracket is red, it means that not all accepted records are shown. If the bracket is black, it means that all accepted records are included in the list.

For RC species and a few other species, it is possible to click at the "info" link to see the total list of records.
